Meet Sister Alice!
Sister Alice Marie Maloney is a Daughter of St. Paul. She entered the convent when she was 19. “Whether I am in California at a book display or here in Boston at the Baby Jesus Birthday Party,” said Sr. Alice, “I love helping the people.” Her favorite Bible quote is from the words God spoke to the prophet Jeremiah: “As the clay is in the hands of the potter, so you are in mine” (Jeremiah 18:6). Meet Sister An Mei!
Sr. An Mei Marie Lam is a Daughter of St. Paul. She was born in mainland China in 1974 and moved to Hawaii when she was 12 years old. One day when she was 14, she walked into a bookstore looking for Chinese books. It was a bookcenter of the Daughters of St. Paul! An Mei became friends with the sisters and visited often. Eventually she began to think about becoming a sister herself! Now Sr. An Mei works in the vocation office of the Daughters of St. Paul. She meets with young women who want to find out about being a sister. She enjoys helping young women discover their gifts and how they can use them to serve God and the Church.

Meet Sister Carmen!
My name is Sister Carmen Christi Pompei. I was born in 1967 in Silver Spring, Maryland, and grew up in Alexandria, Virginia. I am the oldest of five girls. I began to think seriously about becoming a sister when I was in the eighth grade, preparing for Confirmation. What I like most about being a Daughter of St. Paul is belonging totally to Jesus and being able to share him, together with my sisters, through our prayer and mission. I want to spend my life so that everyone can experience his love.

Meet Sister Christina!
Sr. Christina Miriam Wegendt is a Daughter of St. Paul. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1979. Sr. Christina felt God calling her to be a Daughter of St. Paul ever since she was in grade school. Sr. Christina had a lot of fun writing the comic series, Germanus, when she worked with My Friend Magazine. She lived in Staten Island, New York, where she helped people in our bookcenters and visits parishes and schools with our books, music, videos, and DVDs, so people can know more of Jesus’ love for them. Sr. Christina now lives in Boston, Massachusetts in our publishing house, helping to create the books you love to read!

Meet Sister Fay!
Sr. Fay Josephine Pele was born in 1976 and is from Samoa, an island in the South Pacific. She first met the Daughters of St. Paul when she was in the second grade, when they visited her school. Several years later, Fay met them again at the 1993 World Youth Day in Denver. As she got to know the sisters, she was attracted by how they use music as part of their mission. She was active in her parish and sang in the youth choir. “I love to sing and praise God with music,” says Sr. Fay. Today she is able to do just that when she sings in concerts and records albums with the Daughters of St. Paul Choir. The most recent album she has recorded is God, Butterflies, and Miracles, volume two.

Meet Sister Joane!
Sr. Mary Joane Caritas Gepitulan is a Daughter of St. Paul. She was born in Davao City, Philippines in 1972. Growing up, Joane thought of becoming a teacher or a lawyer. It wasn’t until she was nineteen that she first thought about becoming a sister. By then, she and her family had moved to Hawaii, where she first met the Daughters of St. Paul. Sr. Joane attended the University of Hawaii and worked part time part time for the sisters’ bookcenter before entering the community. She now lives in St. Louis, Missouri, where she visits parishes, schools, and conferences with books, music, and other kinds of media that help people know more about God’s love for them.

Meet Sister Joseph!
Sister Mary Joseph Peterson was born in Colona, Illinois. She has three older sisters. She first thought of being a sister when she was in preschool, because there were sisters who taught her. But as she grew up, she also thought about becoming a wife, mother, and scientist. Sr. Joseph is an artist. She illustrates children’s books. One of Sr. Joseph’s favorite quotes from the Bible is when Jesus talks about how our Father takes care of everything, even the little sparrows. “So don’t be afraid! You are worth much more than many sparrows” (Matthew 10: 31).

Meet Sister Majorina!
Sister Majorina Zanatta is a Daughter of St. Paul. She was born in Brazil in 1942. Sr. Majorina helps people who come into the bookcenter of the Daughters of St. Paul (Pauline Books & Media) in Miami, Florida, where she spreads Jesus’ love to many different people through books, music, and other forms of media. One of her favorite quotes from the Bible is from St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians: “For to me life is Christ” (1:21). Sr. Majorina says these words challenge her to live as Jesus did, doing good and giving the Good News of the Gospel. “I pray for all the children who read JClub,” says Sr. Majorina. “Jesus loves you and has great trust in you.”

Meet Sister Maria Ruth!
Sister Maria Ruth Reyes is a Daughter of St. Paul and the coordinator of Spanish radio for these sisters in the US. Her programs air in 14 countries on almost 80 stations! Sister Ruth was born in Bogotá, Colombia. She loves dancing. She started to study classical at six years old. “Children have a great capacity to discover!” says Sister Ruth. “I call them the professionals of surprises because they are able to see God in ways that some adults have forgotten.” She wants you to remember, “You are never alone! Even though you cannot see him, Jesus is there.”

Meet Sister Marlyn!
Sr. Marlyn Evangelina Monge is from Boston, Massachusetts. She first heard about the Daughters of St. Paul when they came to her brother’s school for a bookfair and her brother brought home some comic books on the saints. At the time, Marlyn was working as a bilingual (English and Spanish) kindergarten teacher and a youth minister. She visited the sisters and eventually joined the community. She now lives in Miami, Florida. One of Sr. Marlyn’s favorite parts of the Bible is Psalm 139. She says, “This psalm talks about how much God loves me and knows me—since before I was born. It reminds me that God is always here for me no matter what happens.”

Sr. Marlyn also talks with young people about their vocation. She encourages everyone to listen to God’s call and “embrace the adventure he has in store for you!”

Meet Sister Mary Paula!
Sr. Mary Paula Kolar is a Daughter of St. Paul. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1927 and has six brothers and sisters. Sr. Mary Paula worked part-time in the My Friend magazine office in Boston, Massachusetts. She enjoys seeing the things readers send for the “From Our Friends” page, especially the poetry. Sr. Mary Paula loves reading and writing poetry and is known in the community as a poet. She also loves sports! In 2004, when the Red Sox won the world series for the first time in 86 years, Sr Mary Paula was so excited that she wrote a poem about it!

Meet Sister Maureen!
Sister Maureen George Muldowney is a Daughter of St. Paul. She is a Long Islander who was born in Levittown, NY. Sr. Maureen says that before she decided to become a sister, “I thought about being an ice skater or a veterinarian. God’s call, however, was louder than the others.” As a Daughter of St. Paul in Toronto, Canada, Sr. Maureen likes knowing that she can spread God’s word with all types of media and reach out to many people. “Jesus is always there for us, so let’s be there for Jesus too!” She says, “During the summer, have a good time and remember to pray every day.”

Meet Sister Patricia!
Sr. Patricia Thomas Lane is a Daughter of St. Paul. She was born in 1959 in Anchorage, Alaska, and has seven brothers and sisters. One of her sisters, Sr. Helen Rita, is also a Daughter of St. Paul. They first learned about the Daughters of St. Paul as children, reading kids’ books published by the sisters. Sr. Patricia especially liked reading books in the Encounter the Saints series (still in print!). She most enjoys leading people to meet Jesus through books, music, and other kinds of media. Sr. Patricia has lived and served in Russia and is now studying in Italy.

Meet Sister Roberta!
Sr. Roberta Christine Hummel is a Daughter of St. Paul. She was born in Rochester, NY in 1969. She grew up in St. Louis and Northern Virginia. She first met the sisters through a classmate who became a Daughter of St. Paul, too. One of Sr. Roberta’s favorite bible passages is in St. Paul’s letter to the Philippians (chapter 2, verses 5 to 11). This section is sometimes called the Song of Christ. Look it up and read it! Sr. Roberta now serves as a missionary in Russia, where she continues to share the Good News of God’s love.

Meet Sister Teresa!
Sr. Teresa Mesa is a Daughter of St. Paul. She was born on April 21, 1951 in Santa Barbara, CA. She entered the Daughters of St. Paul in Mexico, but came to the United States in 1987. Sr. Teresa has spent several years helping to produce Spanish-language radio programs, as well as editing various audio and video recordings. Sr. Teresa is now living in Miami where she and the sisters she lives with share the joy of knowing Jesus through the special store run by the Daughters of St. Paul. Sr. Teresa has also struggled with sickness. She encourages any JClub readers going through a difficult time, “Don’t give up; you’re not alone. Jesus is the one who gives us strength. Get to know Jesus because when you know him, you never feel alone. Things become easier when you have someone to talk to.”
